Two for one this week! Huge lesson learnt at Falmouth, where we had the luxury of playing on a large, wooden stage. Dance music in general isn't just about hearing the music, it's also about feeling it. Obvious really, but it took us a while to latch on to the fact that we were standing on the biggest bass bin around. Some choice feedback from the crew ("you sound feeble"), levels nudged skyward, both of sound and alcohol et voila!... people up on the floor. Clearly the lesson learnt here is that if its too loud to talk you'll have to dance, or fall over, or leave. As it was, by mid-evening all generations were up on the floor and we were even getting requests; "Last Train to Clarksville" is one of my faves too. Of course, these are always welcome, and if you can make it 70s Disco that's handy. We may need a few weeks to figure it out although with our ever expanding repertoire, you never know. You can always email us in advance and we'll see what we can come up with. And so to the "Coppice Inn". I'm still puzzled as to why all the windows and doors were shut; whether it was to keep the seething masses out or to prevent anyone who was trapped in there from leaving....my guess is that word spreads fast around here, crowd control, etc. Either way it was HOT, so much so that even our Number 1 fan was struggling to cope with the heat. Unfortunately, I'd contrived to position my pint (of coke would you believe) teasingly close but just out of reach the other side of Wal's Marshall. Error. Recent gigs have given us the chance to try out in earnest another of our weapons of mass disco AKA the lighting rig, strategically positioned up front to lock in to the groove. Unfortunately, as well as illuminating the dance floor we've also had to contend with dazzling fret/keyboards which perhaps explains why Spiff and Wal have such an affinity for dark sun glasses, or maybe there's more to it than that? Bass players, of course, don't need to look; it just confuses things anyway, especially with the added distraction of watching Patsy Kensit all evening, the TV having thoughtfully been left on for those discerning souls for whom 70s disco just isn't their thang. Thankyou. And finally, the ladies really were in top form; the feeling, the emotions, the moves; we even got a double encore to go with the double entendres. Ssssexy! Great nights out, hope you all enjoyed them, many thanks to both venues.         |
